Taylormade s golf clubs have a reputation for both good quality and a focus on the needs of individual players. For this reason, some of their drivers feature several small, adjustable weights that players can use to alter the balance of the club. Changing the balance, in turn, alters the payer s swing, automatically correcting bad habits and making drives longer and more accurate. In essence, Moveable Weight Technology MWT gives each player a custom-made driver, balanced precisely for his or her own swing.

Examples of how the weight systems work for two different drivers should help players decide if these systems are what they need. The other drivers that have MWT work slightly differently, but they employ the same principle and they come with detailed instructions.

Introducing the R Series

Taylormade has two main lines of golf clubs, the Burner series and the R series. The Burn series is for beginners and casual golfers and their designs are very forgiving of subtle mistakes in technique. The R series, however, is for more advanced players, including professionals. MWT is one way some R series clubs let players fine-tune their technique.

Comparing R7 Drivers

Not all R series drivers have MWT, but there is more than one R7 that has these mobile weights. The principle is the same, but slight differences in design create differences in weight positioning. Other aspects of club performance are also different.

Taylormade R7 Quad Driver

This club has two weights of two sizes, each of which can go into any of four ports. If the heavier weights are in the toe, that makes an otherwise straight golf ball fade, or curve to the right for right-handed players. If the heavier weights are in the heel, that causes a draw a curve to the left, for right-handed players. If both heavy weights are on the front side, the ball flies low. If they are on the back, the ball flies high. One heavy weight, in the toe in the front and one in the heel on the back causes a mild fade. One heavy weight, in the toe in the back and one in the heel in the front for a mild draw.

Taylormade R7 Limited

This club has one heavy weight and two much lighter weights, with three available ports. On e port is in the rear, while the other two are in the heel and the two on the front side. If the one heavy weight is in the rear, that causes only a slight draw on an otherwise straight shot. If the heavy weight is in the heel port, that causes a significant draw. The larger weight in the toe causes a significant fade.

Using the Right Equipment

Each R7 driver that has MWT comes with its own torque wrench. Using any other tool to loosen and tighten the weights in their ports risks damaging the weights. The other important tool that comes with R7 drivers is the color wheel. The weights are color-coded, so the color wheel shows how each color configuration influences the performance of that particular club. With the right color wheel, has all the instruction necessary to use any of the MWT drivers, no matter how many weights and weight sizes it has.

How to Buy Golf Clubs on eBay

To find a golf club on eBay, just type its name into the search bar and then use the menu options to refine the search by condition, left handedness or right handedness, men s or women s clubs, and other characteristics. If the right golf club does not come up, try a more general search, such as taylormade driver rather than R7 quad driver. If you really need one exact club and it does not come up, try again later. eBay s listings are always changing.

The Rules of Golf do permit MWT, but they do not permit adjusting the weights mid-game. If the club is properly adjusted from the beginning, there should be no reason to re-adjust them mid-game, anyway. Learning how to adjust the weights is not difficult, and this technology makes it possible for serious players to really take their game to the next level.
